Alcon Debuts UNITY M Ophthalmic Surgical Microscope in U.S., Japan

The base model features a red reflex zone up to six times larger than Zeiss ARTEVO, designed to remain stable as the eye moves.

Alcon has rolled out its UNITY M ophthalmic surgical microscope in the U.S. and Japan, with Europe to follow. The microscope will also be featured at the upcoming European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Congress.

The company said UNITY M merges optics, illumination, ergonomics, and usability in a modular design, which allows practice-specific customization and scalability in the future.

The base model features a red reflex zone up to six times larger than Zeiss ARTEVO, designed to remain stable as the eye moves and support visualization across pupil sizes and microscope positions. Its Color Tunable Illumination was engineered to boost contrast and tissue detail compared with traditional illumination, while an optimized depth of field helps maintain uninterrupted visualization as the eye shifts during surgery.

UNITY M is designed to integrate with Alcon’s product, digital, and services ecosystem, with plans to expand via further modular components. The platform has earned CE mark and regulatory approvals in India, Europe, Canada, Japan and the U.S., with shipments beginning in September.

Last week, the company released the UNITY cataract system (CS), its next-gen standalone cataract surgical platform, in the Great White North. UNITY CS leverages a novel phacoemulsification modality engineered to deliver up to two times faster nucleus removal with 40% less energy into the eye.
